An Activity Program for the Body-Mind
Temple is a haven of relaxation. To assist you in achieving a comfortable and relaxed state, a daily program of physical activity is offered, comprising yoga, chi kung, guided walks and breathing awareness. The focus is on gentle and managed movement. Physical activity enhances the beneficial effects of the spa therapies. Participation is entirely at your discretion.
Our bodies delight in movement. Movement is an essential component of efficient physiological functioning. Movement is part of how we express ourselves.
The prime goal of the program is relaxation - to aid physiological recovery, to restore a more balanced inner state, from which you may recover a personal vision. With an enlightened vision of how we want our lives to be, fitness becomes a daily component. Fitness needs can then be addressed from this renewed starting point, in the realization of our personal vision.
Occasionally the classes are graded with a less intensive and a more intensive option, however the main intention is that the activities are accessible to everyone, regardless of fitness level or prior experience. If you would like to follow a more intensive or individualised program, we recommend one-on-one classes where the instruction will be tailored to your personal requirements.
The class schedule below may vary with availability of instructors. If there is a particular class you wish to do please enquire at time of booking. Yoga is a core element of the programme and is scheduled every day.
Morning Walk, daily at 9.00
"A mile with a smile". Greet the day in country surroundings, in the fresh air, with a guided walk down by our stream.
Yoga, daily at 9.30 & 10.45
The yoga taught at Temple is therapeutic - the intention is that everyone attending should feel some benefit, even from attending just one or two classes. The exercises and awareness developed through the practice of yoga assist in the physical activity of our daily lives - in maintaining function in our muscles and joints, in balance, in the effects movement and activity have on our metabolism, in contributing to our ease of mind and to our vitality.
Whilst it is therapeutic, and taught in a very simple way, the teaching is rooted in a rigorous and disciplined traditional Iyengar practice. If you would like a more challenging class, the teacher is available for one-on-one instruction, with prior booking.
Walking Workout, daily at 11.00 & 2.15
Experience a new way of walking that is both energising and relaxing. Burn calories with reduced effort by working the lower body, still the mind by letting go of the shoulders. Explore the technique that inspired the "MBT" training shoes.
Chi Kung (subject to change) , 3.15 Wednesday - Saturday
Flowing combination of movements and breathing techniques, which stimulate energy flow & promote natural healing & resilience to stress (Chi Kung subject to teacher availability)
Breathing for Relaxation, daily at 5.15
A quiet period, centering awareness and attention on the breath, helps to integrate the experiences of the day. The sensations of breathing may be felt as a shimmering mirror, reflecting a measure of our inner comfort back to us. The breath also responds to our attention, and in its response instills calm within the body. A calmed body becomes the ground for a calm mind.
"Do-In", Friday evenings at 6.15
A gentle exercise to release tension, Do-In is an ancient Japanese practice promoting suppleness and freeing the flow of energy in the body, counteracting tendencies towards "sluggishness" or "stagnation" and helping to maintain vitality. An ideal intro to the spa programme if you have just arrived.

Non-doing is an important component of the Spa day. Enjoy a quiet moment in a comfortable chair, in the steam room or sauna, or underneath a tree. Temporarily putting aside our duties and roles, we can pay more attention to our inner being, our deeper rhythms and renew from the quiet place within.
